I Have A Question

Do you think any of this stuff would sell on Etsy?

10 of these little glass knob cabinet latches. (There was a box of at least 50 crystal knobs, probably more, at this estate sale I went to today. I got there too late. The whole box sold for $25.00! There were so many things I wish I could have bought.)

I Got The Best Package Today

It was full of the BEST goodies!

My friend Dagmar from Studio D sent it. That cute monster softie is for Claire. Dagmar designs and sews them herself. Each one is unique. I keep telling her she needs to sell them!

 Look at her cute, funny face!

She's even got a cute banner necklace. I can't wait to give it to Claire!

This crocheted flower pin is for me. Don't you just love the colors? There were vintage maps, some pieces of vintage wallpaper and 

a National Geographic from 1938! All kinds of fun toys! Thank you, Dagmar! This was such a wonderful package with so many surprises!

Sometimes It Pays To NOT Be The Early Bird

Because then you can get things like this file drawer for 50 cents.

Marked down from $4.00.

I showed up a day late to an estate sale, and things were already marked way down.

The sad thing was, almost all the good stuff was gone.

I only got this and an old yardstick.

I bought this thinking I'd paint it and make it all cute, but once I got it home and cleaned it up, I decided I kind of liked it the way it is. I like the rust. If I could paint it white and still have the rust showing, I might still consider it.

(Wouldn't it make a great breadbox?

I think I'd have to paint it if I ever use it for that.)

Up to a whopping 7 pounds 14 ounces.

(Has there ever been a more perfect baby?

I think not.)

Chocolate Zucchini Bread

It's that time of year. Zucchini is in season. I didn't used to dare go to church without making sure the car doors were locked. Some generous soul might decide to share that weeks bounty with me. And a weeks worth of zucchini can be a lot of zucchini!

It's not that I don't like zucchini, I do. I was just never sure what to do with it all, besides fry it or put it in a casserole.

Now I grate it and freeze it. Most bread or cake recipes call for two cups of zucchini so that's how much I put in each freezer bag. This is one of the best recipes I've found for zucchini bread.

My kids didn't even know there was zucchini in it for the longest time.


Chocolate Zucchini Bread

3 eggs

1 c. oil

2 c. sugar

1 T. vanilla

2c. shredded zucchini, packed
2 1/2 cups flour
1/2 cup cocoa
1 tsp salt
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp baking powder


Mix together eggs, oil, sugar and vanilla. Add zucchini. Stir in flour, cocoa, salt, cinnamon, baking soda and baking powder. Mix well. Bake in 2 greased loaf pans at 350F for one hour or until done. 
Then give a loaf to the kind soul who gave you the zucchini!

Old Cameras

My youngest son inherited some old cameras from his great grandpa a few years ago.

I think these three are some of the most interesting.

This one is my absolute favorite. It's also the rattiest looking. I think that's all the criteria I need in order to love something.

Must be old and ratty looking.(I am only talking about things here. Objects. Not men. I think I can also exclude upholstered items, sheets, towels and clothing. Old? OK. Ratty? No.)

Isn't it gorgeous, though?

This one is interesting, too. It's pretty big. 

(I'm not sure what "land camera" means, but I'm guessing maybe it took panoramic shots?)

I like this one for it's backside.

Shallow, I know.

The front is kind of cute, too.

Wearing a name tag and everything.

My son said I could use these for decorating. (As long as I didn't spray paint any of them! Yes, that really was one of his conditions! I had a really hard time keeping a straight face when I promised I would not spray paint his cameras.)

They're fun to move around~they add a little flair no matter where I put them. 

He'll want them back eventually (that will be a sad day on the farm), but for now, I'll keep them right here.

Shop Light

I've had this light fixture hanging in my craft room for about two years. I bought it at a ReStore, and back then I thought I'd go a little bit retro glam in this room.

But then the room started to evolve in another direction.

I have things like this sign

this table

and all kinds of repurposed junk in the room.

That little green lantern looked out of place.

I got those two shop lights for $3 at an estate sale, but I needed a few parts.

I used this pot lid, and scalped some parts off other old light fixtures, and came up with this.

I think it's a much better fit for the room now. 

Because instead of retro glam, the room is farmhouse junk-style. 

This light just fits!

Camping went really well. At one point, we had 19 girls there, and we had no problems at all. No drama. NO fights! None. We had one special needs girl with us, and it was almost overwhelming to see how kind all the girls were to her. They all did everything they could to make her feel included, and it was such a wonderful thing to see. I teared up more than once. Even though I'm completely exhausted and have no see um bites that are driving me insane, it really was a wonderful experience.
But can you believe I forgot my camera?
Yes. I did. I only got one shot with my phone.

This is where we camped. We were in the bottom of a canyon, and there were waterfalls coming out of the canyon walls.(And I really wish I had some photos of that.) We woke up to the sound of those waterfalls every morning. It was beautiful, 
but I'm glad to be home.

The Opposite of "Glamping"

I'm taking 17 teenage girls camping for 4 days. I'll be one of a group of adults there, thank goodness.

(Are you jealous?)

We won't have electricity hot running water. That means no showers. 
4 days. No showers.

(How about now? Do you wish you could come?)

So we'll be sleeping in tents, but on the ground.

(Now you're jealous!)

And cooking on camp stoves and over fires. It sounds like mostly hot dogs. Euww.

(this was the final straw, I know. You are now insanely jealous.)

Really, I'm hoping it will be fun. It's once a year and it's only 4 days, so even if it isn't fun, no big deal.

I'm not about to pay $899.00, though. 

Do you think it would be hard to make? What else would work besides a wine barrel? I'm thinking something like a smaller galvanized bucket for the sink. The whole thing connects to a garden hose.

How cool is that??

A Scarlett O'Hara Kind of Project

You might remember these doors

that came off this cabinet

that became this cabinet?

Well. They were just cluttering up the garage. It was time to either throw them away or do something with them.

(Wouldn't it be funny if I just said I threw them away and ended this post? OK. Maybe not. But I'm still kind of snickering.)

So I took out those plastic inserts, painted the doors, stapled some chicken wire inside the doors, 

hinged them together,

and made this. 

Sounds simple, right?

No.

The chicken wire came from the float, so it was  a little bent out of shape. By the time I was done stapling it, so was I. Bent out of shape, I mean. And covered with scratches.

Seriously, I kind of wish I'd used hardware cloth. It would have gone on nicer. But, I had the chicken wire so I used it. Also, I really needed 4 hands for this. Or maybe 6. Having only the two, I got a little frustrated. 

(As God is my witness, I will NEVER work with chicken wire again!)
Hence the lack of pictures of my work as I went along. I was too busy being disgruntled.

I made little hooks out of fencing wire. That part was fun.

I don't have everything hanging on it yet, but you get the idea.
